a busy year and it seems that each step of service leads to another which leads
to another, and so on.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>So much has
happened, and yet there is always more to do.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Opportunities abound as friends and
associates are manifesting their talents and desire to be of service in various
avenues, whether it is in publications, music, web development, conferencing, or
other outreach opportunities.<o:p></o:p></P>

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"><o:p> </o:p></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Perhaps it is important to remind ourselves from time to
time that we haven’t formed the Association for Light and Life so we can call
ourselves something and feel important – we are not an organization.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Rather, we are an association of people
for a common goal — light and life.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>Although we want to nurture a sense of community, working together and
supporting one another, one of our primary ideals is the importance of being
characterized more by what we do, than by what we say we are.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>In that light, these newsletters will
hopefully be characterized more by relating our activities and the inspired
activities of those in common with us than by promoting the Association
itself.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">The first election has been held for the first elective
3-year term positions. We had a good response; all the nominees were well
supported by the community… Of the three nominees, Virginia Kelly (who
serves as our Treasurer) opted not to run; Manu Puri and LaReen Pierce were in
the running and made a good showing; however, the incumbents, Rick Giles, Judy
Langston, and Al Wolf were the clear winners… It is a privilege to be part
of the process of weaving our combined wisdom into an agency for
service. Thank you, LaReen and Manu, for being willing to
participate. I urge you to keep the idea of service with ALL alive,
for the good news is, there will be an election every year as the Council
evolves and proceeds. Congratulations, Rick, Al and
Judy. And thank you, one and ALL, from myself and on behalf
of fellow Councilors Allene Vick, Eugenia Bryan and Bob Devine.

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">This summer’s unity conference in the mountains near
Boise, Idaho was memorable in that it brought together believers from several
segments of the larger community to enjoy spiritual fellowship and commit to the
idea of unity with no one group having precedence over the others.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The Association for Light and Life
hosted the conference and the attendees were diverse, including members of the
Urantia Foundation and IUA, the Fellowship, the Teaching Mission, and friends
who were simply spiritually focused, but without any particular
affiliation.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>This was significant
in the sense that these people of differing backgrounds displayed no discernable
difference on the level of spirit and fellowship.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Rather, there was a desire to share,
listen, and experience one another that characterized the 115 souls gathered in
“unity without uniformity.”<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN><o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">After a satisfying and soul-connecting pre-conference
retreat with Al Wolf, Dolores Nice, and the exquisite cooking of Judy Langston,
the conference opened Thursday afternoon with an Urmian style setting where
people spent a couple of hours just sharing from their heart any insights they
wanted to offer to the group.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>It
turned into a fascinating dialogue, discussion and sharing period, which we’re
sure to utilize again in the future. Then Gard Jameson opened Friday morning
with a wonderful talk on spiritual unity, followed by several workshops from the
likes of Matthew Block, Marvin Gawryn, Gerdean Bowen, Rick Giles, Virginia
Kelly, Norman Ingram and many others.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>Byron Belitsos spoke on the poetics of spiritual living; Saskia Raevouri
talked about some of the book projects she’s been working with; and Rob Davis’s
heartfelt sharing on Saturday morning was highlighted by the image of drawing
circles to keep people out being counteracted by drawing larger circles to bring
people in.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN><o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">The evenings were set aside for creativity.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The songs of Mark Turnbull, Barbara
Hester, Mark Austin, Francyl Gawryn, Dan Tyler, Tom Newbill, Peri Best, and
others filled the air, along with the poetic musings of Bob Devine, Adele Tyler,
Jim Cleveland, Byron Belitsos, David Glass, Bert Cobb, and more.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Interspersed at various times throughout
the weekend, there were opportunities to experience the efforts at spiritual
communication known as the Teaching Mission.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>And Dolores Nice closed out the weekend
with a talk on the importance of building community. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

while speakers and workshops offered time for focus, contemplation and
reflection.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>There was worship;
there was praise; and love, service, cooperation, and joy were the prevalent
attitudes.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>We look forward to the
next time with anticipation and expectancy.<SPAN

religious, some spiritual, and some just business, but it is rare that a
conference provides more to the participants than the sum of the presentations,
etc. So, thank you for the holistic conference on unity where the total

interested in the Urantia Book (even though there have been many gatherings of
the younger generations prior to this new tradition). This tour has evolved each
year to bring together people from all over the globe with numerous different
backgrounds. It has attracted some of the same people year after year and has
also welcomed and encouraged new individuals to add to the diversity of people
making room for new and more meaningful friendships. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

different reasons. Each tour is unique and each person is unique and encouraged
to be completely who they are. Many people have said that the friendships they
have made on tour have been the best friendships they have ever had. When
attending an event along the tour or the full length of the tour you have the
opportunity to be among your peers, to talk with them about your deepest
thoughts and feelings, to observe how many people are doing their best to live
the teachings of the Urantia Book. All of this can give a person a wide range of
experience to observe something most people don’t have in their everyday
life.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

two hundred and fifty attendees. It was a very diverse event with people from
almost every continent. Many younger readers came from far distances by
themselves, being fueled purely by their faith and passion for the

along the tour was the “Uplift the World” retreat at the

individually to create a music, spirit, or peace festival atmosphere.
The hope is to create a community effort of outreach centering around a focus

advertise, we could then invite others to feel free to descend on the area and
